Hello! I just joined and I am hoping to find some good discussions here. I currently own three cockatiels and have had tiels as pets pretty much my entire life. Tiels are a big part of my husband and I getting together, so of course they hold a very special place in my heart.
Here's a bit about my current flock (pictures below):
Whiskers is my normal grey male I purchased when he was just a few months old. He is now 20 years old and definitely a "crabby old man" .
He loves his head-rubs and has the best smile!
Ozzie is my five year old cinnamon pearl pied male. He's only been with us a few months. He is very affectionate and is a really amazing flyer. We adopted him through Craigslist and consider ourselves very blessed to have found him because he is not only beautiful
, but also very well trained. He loves people and will fly to your hand from across the house!
Tank is my seven year old white-faced male that I got from his previous owner when he was three. He was being picked on by his African Grey cage mate and was really thin and aggressive. They thought he was a female and had named him Penelope. We tease him about that often, just for fun.
We changed his name immediately and have tried our best to tame him. He will step up, but doesn't seem to care too much for people. He was very bonded to his cockatiel cage mate, that we lost recently.
Harley was my beloved white-faced male that was Tank's cage mate for 5 years. He was honestly the sweetest boy in the entire world. By the time the cancerous tumor was visible, the vet said it was too late to do anything for him. He passed away in my hands just a few months after his diagnosis and it tore my heart in pieces.
We adopted him from his original owner, and he lived with us for 11 years... definitely not long enough.
Along with the tiels, I also own three budgies (another bird I have had as pets most of my life). Birds are such amazing pets! BTW - I also have 5 cats, which is challenging with having birds, but we've made it work.
