HI everyone,
I just wanted to drop in and tell you all a bit about me and my birds. I am 59 and am caregiver to disabled husband,James, our birds have become a fun time for us and well as my husbands speech is badly impaired I find a lot of company in talking to my birds and playing with them. HA!! still learning...
I started out with my first one, Willie, as a birthday present a year ago february 16th,,was told 'he' was a he..so went with that...then my youngest daughter ,who already had a cockatiel named charlie, had to go away for the summer last year and left charlie with me. LOL, she said when she got back that 'my two birds' were acting like male and female..so we decided to try to find out it Willie was actually male or not..
there sure enough was some yellow barring under the tail feathers and the solid gray v shape under the top of tail was also speckled? so we say ok..we have a female willie? I decide to put a nest in cage and well the mating seemed to go..for a while..but then well i noticed recently that both birds had been tearing the feathers out of the back of each others necks..and also noticed that Willie didnt have yellow barring anymore..took the nesting box out and now they dont fight..LOL guess I was tring to mate two males..hmmmm dont think that works..
ok I guess thats about it for now but I am loving reading all of your messages and learning lots from it..my daughter tanya introduced me to this site and has helped a lot..she has five eggs now and we are thinking of trading birds if she gets a female..I need some fun in my life and I believe that would be a great diversion in my confinement with hubby...he enjoys watching the birds play also..
great to be here and look forward to hearing from you all and hoping to learn a lot more about my birds and how to care for them and TEACH them things..
Blessings and happy bird watching to you all
