Hello,

A few years ago I brought some pine cones in from outside and sterilized them in the oven, though I cant remember if I rinsed them first or what temperature I baked them at. My birds liked them. By any chance, does anybody else know?

Thanks.

I wish I knew! I'd love to try pine cones with my fids. They loved the seed covered ones I sometimes find in the pet stores, but they are hard to come by. If I could make my own....

Not really sure as I've never done it, but 400 degrees seems to be a good temp to start at. You could soak them in apple cider vinegar first to help the process.

sterilize pine cones?

It's not the same I know but I sterilized some sandstone rocks from the creek to use in my aquarium. I was told 250 degrees for about 20-30 minutes. Since the boiling point of water is 212 (F) and that will sterilize things, I would think 250 might be enough. Could they burn at 400?
