My handraised female and semi tame male cockatiel are 2 and 3 years old and ready to mate. However today my female performed a mating call, not to my male, but when she was with me?! Does she not like the male, or does she and I've just taken her out at a bad time?

The male, is constantly trying to woo her, but she doesn't let him come close or touch her.... sometimes he doesn't let her preen him?

But once I saw them preening each other. They are preparing the next box and everything, but I haven't seen them mate yet?

Any advice? Please help me, because I don't know what to do!? HELP!

I have a mated pair going through the SAME thing right now. I think it took the male whiteface a little time to figure out just WHAT to do regarding mating. He's got it done GOOD now and besides going at it several times a day with the female, he's REALLY been working on the nest box! This will be this pairs first clutch and we really have our fingers crossed everything goes well as these two will no doubt produce some very beautiful chicks!

I've got a little problem though, they usually don't like to be close to each other. I've only seen them preen once. After that they don't seem to be bonded.... What should I do?

Congrats your female if she did a mating call she is a male you have 2 boy's going thru the motions female cannot do a true mating call..
But when she did the mating call, she crouched down rather than bobbing her head? So I think she did a female mating call. But can a male cockatiel go thorough the same actions and crouch down? My female is a pearl and she still has her pearl markings. But I'm not 100% sure she a female. Please help!
