Hello! I need some help. I have a female cockatiel named pika she’s been pretty good except sometimes chirping loudly being hormonal I thought she might like a friend. My sister couldn’t keep her bird so I adopted her female cockatiel Luna. Both only a couple years old Pika is more laid back and lazy preferring head pets. Luna is active and social. I quarantined her and they would chirp very loudly to each other across the house. Finally have had them in the same room for a few days and Luna seems very energetic and maybe hormonal chirping a lot and pika will sometimes answer with a shrilly piercing chirp. This basically has been going on everyday for the first few hours. It’s only been a few days is pika going to warm up to Luna? It almost seems she’s having a fit she’s here. I tried covering their cages keeping it dark extra long but it’s not working yet although it may be toning it down. They both seem to want me but when I come near they both are too loud so all I can do is lay down and wait for them to calm down. If I leave they also chirp crazy the whole time. They’re really loud to where it causes headaches sos and thank you!!!

If you think two cockatiels are loud, try 4 Sun conures!!! LOL! On a serious note, I do know what your going through. I'm guessing that it's just taking extra time for Luna to seattle into her new home and Pika is excited ( or jealous ) to have a new addition around! Yes, Pika could actually be bonded to you and that could be what all the extra commotion is about. Do you plan to try them both in the same cage at some point? That may help with the noise as they will eventually become more interested in each other.

Thanks for responding! Four sun conures sounds beautiful! I never noticed how loud bird can be lol. Yes I take them both out to roam free and they will go in and out of Lunas cage together, on top of the cages and to their bird stand. (Luna just following pika everywhere) I think pika may be trying to avoid her. But when I take Luna back out of the room they both freak out chirping. I’m sure Luna would love to share a cage but pika just seems to want her space which I hope will change. Pika might be bonded to me which is also why I wanted another bird for her cause I’m not always around
