Hello from Maryland

I've been lurking on this site for about a month now. My family owns 3 budgies and when I started reading here about cockatiels, I knew I wanted one!

I have a cinnamon pearl baby on reserve with a breeder and he/she will be ready in about three weeks. My sons have already named it Kiwi and are so excited!

Quick question regarding the cinnamon pearl mutation as it pertains to males. I understand that they will lose their pearling after the 1st or 2nd molt. What color remains?

Anyhow, I really enjoy reading about how all of your lives have been enriched by your birds and I can't wait to bring Kiwi home!

Like Laura said, a cinnamon pearl male will look like just a cinnamon after the first moult:

(the one on the left, right is a cinnamon female)

I can't wait to see little baby Kiwi in a few weeks time. :D Laura's idea of asking for the parents mutations is a good one, then we can tell you right away if you've got a girl or an unknown.

Nope, that means that Kiwi could be either or. :p
