My name is Christine, I'm 36 years old and I live in Arizona. I have a husband, 4 boys, 3 dogs, and 2 birds (soon to be 3!).
My "old man" Cockatiel, CJ (Ceej for short) is an 18 year old Grey, and I've had him since he was about 6 months old. He's quite cage territorial and doesn't like to come out anymore, but he loves attention from outside his cage - he'll dance, whistle, and kiss anyone who comes up to his cage and talks to him (including the dogs). Ceej is pretty set in his ways and likes certain perches and certain toys in his cage - others he has ignored for years. He's a happy guy, though, always whistling. We call him our little drunken sailor, because that's what he sounds like when he's whistling his endless tunes!
My newest addition is Sam (photo in my avatar), a pearl Cockatiel who is just a few months old. We got him about a month ago from a small local bird shop, and he was already very used to being handled. He spends most time out of his cage, and loves to cuddle and just be on a person, especially if he's getting scritched. I must say I have never seen a Cockatiel as hard on toys as Sam is...he chews and shreds more like a Macaw than like any Cockatiel I've every seen. He's a total clown, and loves to climb, hang upside down, and flip around.
Finally, we will soon have a Hahns Macaw. I have a deposit on a chick from a local breeder who is 4-5 weeks old. We'll be visiting "Beaker" for the first time this coming weekend, and I can't wait until he comes home.
I was raised with birds from the time I was a little girl...my parents had several Amazons, a Blue and Gold Macaw, a Moluccan Cockatoo, and a Cockatiel named Paco who just passed away at the ripe old age of 26 years old. I can't imagine NOT having a bird as part of our family!
