I have two pairs that I need help with ascertaining their offspring colors.

Pair A: Lutino hen (Lola) split to? x Normal cock (Vinnie) split to Whiteface and Lutino

Pair B: Fallow Pied hen (Joey) split to? x Lutino Pearl cock (Petey) split to?

What kinds of chicks will they produce, and what will the babies be split to?
I'm also interested in what their offspring might produce if bred together?

Thanks from a brand new member (but mildly experienced breeder)!!

PAIR A
Mother:Lutino
Father:Grey Split To Whiteface {X1: Lutino}

male offspring:
25% Lutino Split To Whiteface
25% Grey Split To Whiteface {X2: Lutino}
25% Lutino
25% Grey Split To {X2: Lutino}

female offspring:
25% Lutino Split To Whiteface
25% Grey Split To Whiteface
25% Lutino
25% Grey

PAIR B

Mother:Fallow Pied
Father:Lutino Pearl

male offspring:
100% Grey Split To Fallow Pied {X1: Lutino Pearl}

female offspring:
100% Lutino Pearl Split To Fallow Pied

in both cases it depends on if the aprents have other splits.. in the case of hens to whiteface,or pied and males to cinnamon.. which will make slight variations

Thanks you guys SO much for the quick responses!

One question I had was why wouldn't all of Lola and Vinnie's babies that are grey be split to Lutino - why only half? I thought if one parent was split to something, then all babies carried the genes for that??

Do both parents have to carry the gene for a baby to show the coloration or feather pattern?

half would be visual and half split because dad is split lutino... if he was visual too then all would be lutino visual..
and girls CAN´T be split lutino.. either they are visual or they are not...

and the reason for no white is because there´s only a split... and to get whitefaces you need a gene from each parent... split or visual... splits give you 50% chances whilte visuals guarantee 100% chances in getting some...

in some cases yes, both parents need to have the gene for it to show, this is the case of whiteface

Females don't carry sex linked splits. Since Dad is Split to Lutino some of his daughters would be Lutinos. But the ones that are gray are only gray. Some of them would be split for Whiteface tho since it is recessive and females will pick up recessive genes. All the Male offspring will definitely be split for Lutino since Mom is a lutino. Male take a color gene from both parents. You may even get a male Lutino since Mom IS Lutino and Dad is Split.

are you talking about breeding siblings together, or parents with their own off spring

or do you mean one chick from each pairing

are the 2 pairs related to each other?

Yes, I meant breeding the offspring of one to the offspring of the other. Sorry I wasn't more clear!

So females can be split to pearl and/or pied because those are feather patterns, but not lutino, cinnamon or fallow because those are colors? And males can be split to whatever either parent has that's not visually seen on the baby males?

Where can I find out which colors/patterns need genes from both parents to show up?

I've decided to focus my breeding program on primarily Pearls and Pearly Pieds; in Cinnamon, Lutino and Whiteface Cinnamon, I'm thinking. Though it would be nice to get a white now and then.

With that in mind, how would you suggest pairing up my birds? I have Lola, a Lutino hen, Josephine, a Fallow Pied hen, Petey, a Lutino Pearl male, Vinnie, a Grey male split to Whiteface and Lutino, and Milo, a Grey male split to Pearl, Pied and Cinnamon. I was going to save my most promoising female from these next two clutches as a hen for the "leftover" male. Once she's at least a year old, that is.

Thanks for explaing things out to me - I really understand it so much better now! I'm even taking notes so I won't forget.

By the way, in case I forgot to mention it earlier - THANKS for the Cockatiel Color Palette link! I just love it! I've been playing with it a lot the last few days!

No. Females can't be split for pearl. It is a sex linked mutation so they either are or aren't Pearl. if they don't look like a Pearl they don't have the gene. females can be split for recessive mutations like Whiteface and Pied. But not to sex linked like Pearl, Cinnamon and Lutino. To get any Lutino Whiteface (all white) You will need at least one more Whiteface. It would be best to breed you Male that is split to Whiteface and Lutino to a Whiteface hen. Then you will have the possibility of getting a Whiteface Lutino baby girl.

What I've been told by breeders is that hens can't really hide too much. I was told males are the ones that tend to hide a multitude of mutations.

Tiels need two whiteface genes to visually express the trait, right? From what I understand they can express if each parent has one whiteface gene, or if one or both parents are visual whitefaces they'll be whiteface.

Yes that is correct. Whiteface is a recessive mutation and can be carried by both parents unseen. If both parents are WF splits you should get roughly 50% WF, and yes 2 WF parents + 100% WF babies.
