Hi Guys
just wanting a quick question. I am thinking about hand rearing my baby cockatiels because the parents haven't been very successful. I am wondering what age would be okay to take them away from there parents and if the need a heat lamp or something?

Thanks Jay

The ideal age is two weeks, if you only have one or two they might require a heat lamp. If you have three or more that isn't necessary as long as they are kept at room temperature 75 degrees F.

It is possible to start earlier on day one but that requires keeping the chicks at around 90 degrees F and frequent hand washing before and after handling them because they have no immune system. Breathing on them is a bad idea too. At day one they require feedings every two hours both during the day and at night, not recommended.

Here is a helpful link on the subject.
