So I've had my baby for about a month now and here is what I've noticed. She is one of the quietest birds I have every seen. She rarely makes a sound. Occasionally she will call to me if she can't see me, but that's it. Mind you, I'm not complaining about the quiet bird one bit. :p

Here's what's got me worried. She hardly MOVES! She will go to her food cup and sit there all day long. I fill it when I leave for work in the morning and I clean/refill it when I get home at night. She sleeps in the dish all night and then, when I get home from work, she is sitting in it again. The only time she is not sitting in the food dish is when I move her out of the way. When I take her out of the cage (about an hour a day) she just sits wherever I put her. If I have her on my chest, she falls asleep. If I put her on the table, she will peck at the table but not move from her spot. What you see in my signature is the position she usually spends her day in.

I know she is still really young (4 months) so I'm wondering if she is still learning or is it time for me to get concerned? She's not fluffed up and her poops are fine. Am I being a hypocondriac or do I have valid reasons for being concerned? Thanks for the help.

I don't really know what to say about that, females generally are quiet my Georgie rarely makes a peep, does she have lots of different toys in her cage maybe try and get her to play with you I play games with mine peek a boo and I got your nose are always a favourite with mine :p yes she is young but it still seems odd that she is doing nothing more then sitting there even at that age and younger mine were all over the place playing with toys etc.... I can see why your concerned I would be to but its hard to say if its normal or something is wrong I always say if you think something is wrong go with your gut and get it checked out.

Hmmm....I'm not sure. Baby was pretty quiet when she was a baby but very active. Same with Ziggy....Some are more active then others though. Then again, Baby and Ziggy were also a bit older. If you're worried about something I say just take her in for a check up and have them run some tests to make sure there's no underlying problem but I highly doubt that's an issue. Just take her out and put her on your shoulder while you do what you have to do around the house. Let her explore...maybe give her some treats, play peek a boo like Laura said. In time, she should break out of her shell.

all my tiels seem to be "lazy' thats about the only way to put it, they are perfectly happy to sit around all day and do nothing

every now and then I'll see a few of them on the play gym playing with a ball or a bell but for the main part of the day they just sit there, or walk around the cage, I have one who will get a piece of food out of the commnuity bowl that sits on top of a cage and will walk to one end of the cages while eating it, turn around go get another piece and do it again for about 5 mins then she(he) will go find some where to sit and just sit there for a while
