I have this beautiful pair of cockatiels. The male is the Lutino. The female is a Cinnamon Pearl.

So, I have had 2 clutches from them so far. The first clutch was a Cinnamon Pearl Female, 3 Grey Males and 2 Lutino Females.

The second clutch was 3 Lutino Females, a Pied Male, and a Grey Male

So, my question is about splits. Is the Dad a Lutino split to pied? I,m still working on getting it all together in my head and I am just
wanting to identify how the pied baby came about!

Does the dad have red or brown eyes? If red, then he would be a lutino split to pearl, cinnamon, and pied. If brown, then he would be what's considered a clear pied (looks like a lutino but with brown eyes) split to lutino, pearl, and cinnamon. Also, the mom has to be split to pied because pied is recessive, meaning both parents have to carry the pied gene to pass it on to their offspring.

Thank you! I took a picture (attached) and I believe he must be a clear pied! Eyes look brown to me. So, does the same "rule" apply that all of their lutino chick would be female? The chicks appear to have red eyes. I've got 3 currently and I am going to go examine them more closely! If they do in fact have brown eyes but appear to be lutino, that would make them clear pied and I would need to run DNA on them? thanks so much for helping me with this!

Yes, he is probably a clear pied, then. And yes, all lutino chicks from them will automatically be females still. The only way you could get male Lutinos is if you bred him with a lutino female, which isn't wise just because it increases baldness in chicks. Yes, if they have red eyes, they will be Lutinos and will be females. If they have brown eyes, they will be clear pieds, and you will have to DNA them to know what they are. I'm glad I could help!
