Hi everyone,

The other day Earl got his foot stuck in the string, on one of his toys, he got it out himself after a lot of wriggling  I was just about to get it off him and he released his foot from it :)

It has wooden balls and circle's on and it is threaded on string. It is white string and has loads of threads.

It also has a bell on the end! :D

I bought the toy from a pet shop, and didn't think he would get his claw/foot stuck in it. It must have had a knot in it

Should this toy be removed ??

Poor Earl. Unless you can remove the string/rope then I wouldn't advise putting it back it. You can't risk it again. ;)

I would remove it as well you don't want to take the chance of something going wrong if your not home and he can't remove his foot on his own, or you could always just remove all the strings on it if thats possible.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I haven't removed it yet, as I have brushed it, I have also had a test run, put a needle through it to see if it would get stuck, and it went straight through. :D
I will brush it more often now! To keep safe! :) It is rope but at the end, it was bought like this, they had made it so it is untied at the end so it can get knotty!

OK but I don't think brushing it down and testing it with a needle will help. A needle is smooth and can go right through any cloth material- a tiel's nail is not. If it's frayed rope it'll tangle again when they chew it and he'll get stuck again.

I personally do not like frayed rope for this reason. Please remove it before it happens again. ;)

Maybe if you don't want to remove the toy completely, is it possible to trim up the frayed bit really short? I've done that with some of Dooby's toys, the ones with tassels on, I've cut those up short so now he can still preen them, but they aren't long enough for him to get tangled in.
Good Idea! :D I will decide what to do when I get it out of their cage later! :D

maybe you can replace the string with something more suitable for birds, I use the cord from jogging pants or hoodies, when they end up bieng longer on one side of my pants or hoodie then the other side and i can't get it back to the way its supposed to be, I just yank it out and use it to make toys for the birds

or you can get some leather or sisle rope from the craft store and just remake the toy you've already got

Thanks for the advice everyone :D I might just modify it so it is safe! :) Any suggestions on the material to use instead of the rope/string ?? I have seen some suggestions of some material to use, any more ??

Thanks for answering!
