My cockatiel is still young, but I am interested in finding out if she's a boy or girl.
Some questions:
When is the best time to find out? Is it too stressful for them to be worth it?
Also, my vet estimated $100 to find out, but the place I got her said they could do it for $35. Should I trust the pet store to do it? It's a small store that specializes in birds, and they seem knowledgeable, but I don't know if it's something I should trust anyone other than a vet with (if I do it at all).

I usually do the nail clip. I wrap the bird in a towel, feet hanging out. Then I clean the nail with rubbing alcohol, I clip the toenail just a little too short, collect a few drops of blood on the card, and then pack the nail with some flour. Put the bird back in the cage, bag the card, and monitor the bird for the next half hour to make sure it has returned to a calm state (most birds will be panting and wings drooping when finished). Then all you have to do is mail it in with payment and check the website for results. :)

Does anyone do the disease testing? Just curious.
