So I'm still trying to identify Echo's mutation, strange as it sounds I've spent the past seven years showing guinea pigs, so I have a good idea of the show scene and how the various mutations are meant to work. But no offence to those who do show their tiels, but the breed names are extraordinarily confusing at least with the guinea pigs world wide each different variety had only one name LOL.

So can someone please explain the difference between the silver, the pastel silver, the platinum, the cinnamon, the pewter and the fallow?

I can't get good enough pictures of Echo to make his colouring really obvious so you guys'll have to put up with a description. He's a white face with a grey beak and feet, his eyes are solid black. He's also split to pied if that helps at all (small patch of white feathers on the back of his neck) He's an incredibly pale grey, so pale that it can hard to distinguish white feathers from grey. His wings are darker then his belly though that's not saying much. His wings could be slightly brown, there more of a warm grey then a cool grey. So what would he be? I've been told he's a silver, a pastel silver, a platinum and a fallow before. But I'd like to know his mutation so i can actually tell people what he is when they ask LOL.

He isn't a Fallow, if he was a white face fallow his wings would be dark brown, if he was "normal'' fallow his face would be yellow

Okay new question, whats the difference between double factor dominant silver and suffused silver.

Hmmm I have got to get the name of Echos breeder out of the store LOL, looking at these varieties I could swear I've seen platinums, yellowcheeks and cinnamons in their $30 tiel cage and in their hand reared tiel cage.

what color are his eyes?

he looks pure white to me, do you have a picture other then the one in your siggy?

I do but he still looks white in them. He has black eyes. Heres the most recent the darker feathers are the new ones coming through from his molt, though the colours not quite right, he's lighter then this

This is a bit closer to his colour but too bright due to the fact he was sitting less then 20 cm away from an extremely powerful marine aquarium light (don't ask LOL)

Yeah Kind of but his wings are darker then his chest, whereas in that pic the chest is darker then the wings. He is split to pied but he's not pied, apart from three white feathers on the back of his neck the rest are pale grey, its just really hard to tell in the pics.

Echo looks to me like a Whiteface Cinnamon Female. Black eyes with brown feathers are Cinnamon. With red eyes Fallow. Cinnamon ranges widely in intensity of color from chocolate brown to pale tan. It IS hard to tell if Echo is tan or grey. You could be right about the platinium however. A Silver tends to have pale grey but the platinum has pale tan. If you could get a good pic with natural light on the back may be it would be clearer. Also the age is an issue. If Echo hasn't gone through a molt yet even if it was male it would look like a hen. If Echo is over 6 months I would say you have a hen. In the Whiteface the face would be pure white. Echo's appears to have the body color on the face as a female or an immature male. Also I notice in all the pics the feet are at a pretty wide stance. Hens tend to stand with their feet further apart than males. It's a pelvic bone thing.

Echo's a male, we have mating dances, continual noise, beak tapping, strutting and heart wings he can also say about 15 words, but there hasn't been any female behavior cues so we're pretty sure he's a male. His face has begun to turn white, but as I said its rather hard to tell white feathers from grey because of how pale the grey is, but there are white feathers there. You can kinda see it in the second pic I posted, his face has a slightly mottled appearance, thats the white feathers.

I've been doing more reading and seems platinums and cinnamons have pink beak and feet? if thats right then Echo's not one, his feet and beak are grey.

A Fallow will have a pink beak and feet but the Cinnamon has brown rather than grey. So we have eliminated Fallow and Cinnamon.
