:pearl: I have a 6 month old pearl cockatiel who is molting. The new feathers that are growing in are pearl. Does that make her a girl? If she is a girl when will she start laying eggs. (Not the kind that hatches)

Hi, I don't think eggs are inevitable and you should try to prevent them if possible. There is plenty of reading if you research. Peppy started about 9 months and hasn't really stopped since. I just try to keep her healthy but she is just too comfortable with us and I don't think this helps.

Hormone control will help prevent egg laying. It's good to use it on both boys and girls because boys can get crabby and nippy if hormonal. Is your bird just a pearl or could there be some pied going on too? I had a pearl split pied and he kept his pearls for well over two years.
