So when it was time to buy a cage for Pee-Wee I've made my research and decided to go with the Prevue Flight Cage here
http://www.amazon.com/Prevue-Products-Wrought-F040-31-Inch/dp/B00176F5L0

For the price versus the size I thought it was perfect, so I convinced my wife it was not too big and bought the cage ;-)

Now after a couple months, the wife is not so thrilled about the size of the cage, taking too much space in the living room.

So she decided we needed a smaller cage, at the local pet store, we saw the Hagen Vision cages, this one in particular

http://www.amazon.com/Vision-Bird-Cage-Model-L12/dp/B0012DOXFW

Wife loves that it's easier to clean and creates less mess....

Now my only concern with this cage is the width..... it's 30Lx15Wx36H

Do you think a width of 15in is enough for a tiel ? Does the length of 30in compensate? He does come outside the cage more than an hour a day......

Thanks for your comments, opinions ;-)

It does look a bit small in the pic but maybe a pic with your tiel in might help :)

i don't have personally experience with them but i have read some reviews on them. the plastic that it is made of is thin a flimsy it is not well made. and i read one that says inside size is smaller. but this is all stuff i read.

15 inches wide is too small for a cockatiel!

I had the smaller version of this cage I WOULDNT BUY IT!!!! It says it keeps the mess in but really it doesnt much,My birds didnt like the plastic part in between the bars and the food cups and the cage just really isnt ideal for a bird larger than a lovebird. Also the cleaning process is HORRIBLe it takes much longer than a tray and the sheaths from seeds get stuck in the weirdest of places,If I were you I wouldnt purchase ANY of the VISION cages.

Thank you all for your replies, it kind of confirms what I was worried about....

I guess I'll keep looking for an other smaller cage that I can put on the livingroom table...

Thanks again

I`m curently looking at this one now
http://www.wayfair.com/AandE-Cage-Co.-Flat-Top-Small-Bird-Cage-AE29628-AEC1077.html

Size is good, the company seems reputable, and some good reviews all around...

Ther`s also this one
http://www.wayfair.com/AandE-Cage-Co.-Victorian-Small-Bird-Cage-AE29626-AEC1075.html

Same size but different look and the door doesn`t open the same I think.

But pee-wee spends a lot of time on the top of his cage...so I guess the first one seems a better choice....

Any thoughts ;-) ?

The dimensions on the first one is good, but the bar spacing is a little wider than most tiel owners are comfortable with. Try to find a 1/2" bar spacing.

The second one is a better choice. It's a good size and has appropriate bar spacing..

I narrowed the search results to 1/2" bar spacing...you can also change the dimensions of the cage on the left hand side of the page so you can get the right one for you.

Hey, thanks for the link, price is great and they also ship to Canada ;-)

On this one it says 1/2" for bar spacing eventhough it`s the same model number.....On the A&E website they say it`s 1/2" as well so I guess that`s the right answer and wayfair has it wrong

Thanks again for pointing out this site ;-)

5/8" is fine for tiels, thats the bar spacing for my lovebirds and they have no problem. just no bigger than that size. the first cage is fine, and so is the second. its up to you, theyre both nice cages

hi i hav the hagen cage tho regular hight and find it fine for my tiel, he also likes it, find it is big enough tho my tiel only in it when i'm out and bedtime, as for mess i find it stays in cage and is easy to clean, just lift top part off lift grate change paper place grate and top back on and its done, maybe bit harder if tiel not tame tho.

Yes seriously it's great!

It's just too big for our living room, and because of it's size it's a lot of work to clean thoroughly once a month (desinfecting all the wires).

But if you have the place for it you will love it!!

Now I'm thinking I'm gonna try to separate the top from the bottom of the Prevue cage and put the top on the livingroom table......
