Lulu's down in falling out like crazy. Is this normal? She preens herself and then shakes her feathers and it comes out. Also I can see down sticking out from under her wings in the back.

Yes, I'm afraid so!! How old is she? When they get to around six months, they have a huge moult.....I thought Dooby was going to be bald!! They have a lot of dust in their feathers, they have a gland at the bottom of their back and it secretes a powdery substance, they use this to keep their feathers in good condition....unfortunately, they overdo it and when they shake, rattle and roll....we all get powered!!

It's worse with some tiels, i know my Cookie is way worse for shaking fluff and powder everywhere than any of my others. :p It just comes with tiels, and you get used to looking like you've got a serious dandruff problem after your tiel's been preening on your shoulder.

I love burying my face in her feathers. She smells so good, like fruit and feather fluff :D
My husband thinks I'm nuts, but I have always loved "Cockatiel scent". They have a very distinct scent and I think it's adorable. Since Sam loves wing kisses I get to breathe in lots of his little smell!
