Lulu's down in falling out like crazy. Is this normal? She preens herself and then shakes her feathers and it comes out. Also I can see down sticking out from under her wings in the back.

Yes, I'm afraid so!! How old is she? When they get to around six months, they have a huge moult.....I thought Dooby was going to be bald!! They have a lot of dust in their feathers, they have a gland at the bottom of their back and it secretes a powdery substance, they use this to keep their feathers in good condition....unfortunately, they overdo it and when they shake, rattle and roll....we all get powered!!

It's worse with some tiels, i know my Cookie is way worse for shaking fluff and powder everywhere than any of my others. It just comes with tiels, and you get used to looking like you've got a serious dandruff problem after your tiel's been preening on your shoulder. :lol:

I love it. I think it's cute. I just wanted to make sure it's normal . I love burying my face in her feathers. She smells so good, like fruit and feather fluff

Spike had a nice long shower today and when he dried off and shook out came lots of dust. Also I find Spike stinks when he is wet

My husband thinks I'm nuts, but I have always loved "Cockatiel scent". They have a very distinct scent and I think it's adorable. Since Sam loves wing kisses I get to breathe in lots of his little smell!
