I know they are a bit lackluster, but are they bad to use for an extended period? I wrapped one of them in a vet wrap no stick tape and Percy seems to like it a lot. It's becoming his favorite "daytime" perch. Thoughts?
I don't see a problem as long as it's not the /only/ perch being used and there are plenty of opportunities in the cage for the bird to get adequate foot exercise with other perches as well (natural perches of varying widths are good).
I have 3 dowel perches in my tiels' cage. And 1 in my budgies' cage.
Like it was said above, as long as they have a variety in there, they're good. But yes, extended use of dowel perches can cause some foot problems like bumblefoot, but other than that, owning them at all isn't bad. Especially since you covered it in vet wrap, which will make it more soft and supportive
