There is a safe plant/fruit/veggie thread- basically, anything that's NOT there can be considered toxic. If there's something questionable or not on the list, just ask and I'll do the reseach and find out for sure.

ATV chick- mushrooms are a big no since they are in the fungus family, onions in large amounts are as well.

I just went over the list and noticed Parsley is on the toxic list. It is by NO MEANS toxic, in fact it's very safe and good for them. I've been giving it to all my birds for the last 15+ years.

I always use that list when making flicky somthing nice and new to eat its very usefull. :)
Thanks. I always look on it when I forget about something.

i think the thing with parsley and spinach and similar dark green veges being labled 'toxic' might be due to the large amounts of iron in them....a bird could possibly get an iron overdose?...(but it would have to eat practically nothing but parsley) just a thought...
Parsley contains three times as much vitamin C as oranges, twice as much iron as spinach, is rich in vitamin A and contains folate, potassium and calcium.
... is iron something they can get metal poisoning from?..
i know a lot of foods contain zinc... and too much can make heavy metal poisoning....
Your're right, parsley is high in iron, vitamin A *which is great*, folate, potassium, calcium, and a few other things but I highly doubt it would become an issue unless they are NOTHING but parsley for a very extended timeframe. Like I said, I have been giving it daily to all the birds I've ever had over the last 15+ years, and they've all died of only natural deaths, not anything health related. I give it to them almost everyday and they love to chew the springs as snacks. It's nothing that they have in excess, all things in moderation.;)
