HI,
I'm new to this forum, I hope someone had this problem before and can tell me what to do. I purchased a pair of cockatiels awhile ago. I have breeded lovebirds in the past and I was interested in breeding cockatiels. I have read information in books, websites and here. The problem is my female cockatiels is laying too many eggs. My pair mated and still are. The male is laying on the eggs. The eggs are infertile and she is still laying, she has laid a total of 12 eggs, 1 every other day. What should I do to make her stop, also what should I do about the eggs? Please help, I don't want anything to happen to my birds.

Greetings!

My Jupiter laid 10 eggs last month... everything that I have read says not to do anything with the eggs unless you replace them with dummy eggs because your hen will just lay more to replace the ones that are missing.

Please visit and read this page:

http://www.cockatielcottage.net/egg_laying.html

It is very informative and helped put my mind at ease.

Also.... is there ANY chance that you have 2 females? They have been known to share nests.

http://talkcockatiels.com/showthread.php?t=32330 this should help her stop.

As for the current eggs, let her sit until she tires of them, then remove them. Once the hormone control kicks in (about two weeks) she will tire of the eggs and you can take them out.
