Hi everyone I'm new here. I just need some advice about my cockatiel pair. They laid an egg outside of the nest box and they are not staying much inside the nest as if they are not preparing for egg-laying. Why is that? Thank you.

How old are these birds? Normally the male would go in first and spend atleast a few days arranging the nest box. Parents that are the CORRECT age too breed take turns sitting on the eggs. I would place the egg inside the box and see what happens.
