Hi all,
I have recently acquired two cockatiels from a person that could not take of them as his other bird kept bullying them. I am making a diet change for them to go from seeds to pellets and vegetables with seeds occasionally. I have been decreasing seeds gradually and mixing them with crushed pellets. I occasionally offer fruit and vegetables but they have no interest at all. So now I dry out some vegetables and mix it into their food and just keep offering them fresh fruits and veggies hoping that one day they get interested. Anyways even when I give new fresh supply of seeds and pellets one of the birds (she is called lady although I’m pretty sure its a boy) down to the bedding and diggs though the beechwood pellets and chews on them. I have chew options hanging in the cage (wood toys for chewing and paper for chewing). When the other bird want to see what all the fuss is about on the bottom of the cage lady gets territorial almost and chases the other one away. Same as lady does when eating. So my question is whether this is normal behavior and if I should maybe offer Some of the bedding in a tray for lady to chew on so she doesn’t dig around the floor. Could this be because of the diet change? And while you are here anyway from the picture below and this behavior would you say it’s a boy or a girl? (Other behavior lady shows: whistling, talking, lady is on top when they try to mate and whistles while doing it.
