I got my cockatiel from a breeder. Before I bought him, the breeder asked me to clip his wings for his protection. He said: " the first 2 feathers, you don't clip. You clip the rest 4 - 6."
MY COCKATIEL CAN STILL FLY.
I got him out of the cage and he started running into walls!???!?? WHAT THE HE-
And I had to grab him because he was going to injure himself!!!!!!
How can he still fly?!?! It's the whole purpose of wind clipping to stop a cockatiel from flying and for him to NOT run into walls?!

First question: WHO clipped his wings? I'm guessing it probably wasn't done properly. The whole idea behind wing clipping is NOT to prevent them from flying at all but rather keeping them from getting any height. Most tiels will simply walk across the floor when they discover this making it much easier to pick them up when you want too. Although it wasn't mentioned, I might add that windows are another MAJOR problem for tiels. Birds can't see glass! I have a four year old pearl hen that every time she flys into the kitchen, she smacks the window pretty hard but never seems to hurt herself.

The breeder clipped his wings.... And she can still gain some height if she tries hard enough....
