Have two babies we had to pull from the parents. Babies were lethargic and we were afraid the parents would kill them as they have in the past. Anyways it’s been a few days I’ve been fixing their food with coconut water going well until today. The smaller of the two his eyes aren’t even open yet is draining the crop well but the abdomen is starting to get unusually swollen. I’m afraid it’s constipated. Gave it some vegetable oil with its food and made it a small feeding. Next I plan on giving it some apple sauce and soaking it’s bent with warm water. Any other suggestions would be welcome

Would you be able to post some pictures of him? Cockatiels are known for having giant rear ends. Here is a picture of my chick from before. Does it look like this? View attachment 93868

Sorry quality isn't great. Looking a bit better today but still not great. I gave him some apple sauce and coconut oil last night plus a warm bath for his rear end then rubbed coconut oil on it also. There was a spot on the paper towel this morning that looked like it might be from the coconut oil soaking in and it was around some feces. He is a little lethargic but not bad and wants to eat.

Those pictures are just fine, and I can tell by them that the chick is definitely normal. Cockatiels are known for having giant rear ends which can sometimes scare people when they don't know because it looks like something might be wrong. He/she looks very healthy! 😊 Thankfully, they will grow out of their giant rear ends and look like normal cockatiels. Here is another picture of my chick was it's older and still has the giant rear end. And the picture with the wings up, he's already gotten rid of it.

Ok Thank you, yours definitely looks huge. We have only a dozen or so babies but have only hand fed a few and this was the first time a noticed it to this extent. I feel so much better I was concerned for it.

Yes, he is much older in those pics. The pic with the wings up, he is three and a half weeks old. And the pic on the bottom he is two and a half weeks old. Yeah, the big rear ends are pretty creepy, but thankfully they lose them and look much cuter, especially when the feathers start coming in.
