I want to get a Bissel carpet shampooer. My Cockatiel has the run of the house. I'm concerned about any effects on his health. And what about using floor waxes (i.e. Mop and Glo)? (I would put him in a separate room during and until the floors are dry, ventilating the house too.)

I have moved your post out to its own thread so that it can be seen better ;)

I am not sure of any health effects by using a shampooer I have used one on my carpets with the birds in a different area of the house and have had no problems with them as far as floor wax I am not sure about that never used it maybe someone else has some thoughts on that.

I'm not familiar with any of those brands, but i would be hesitant to use anything that produces a strong smell. I would also worry about any left over product that may be absorbed in the carpet. I'm not sure about your tiel but i have an impossible time keeping my guys from picking at the carpet.

I have no idea about them both sorry, we have wooden floors and just a rug. As for the floor we just mop desinfectant on it with the birds in the room, as it doesn't really give off a scent at all, and they are fine with it! -Also there is also a window/door to the outside open so the floor gets dried quicker and the place gets some fresh air! :)

I heard of a product named Doodle it is non-toxic and fragrance free. You can get it in a carpet machine formula aswell. But when we did our rugs we just used some water and about 20 drops of gse. Iam not sure if the doodle would get the carpets any cleaner or not though. The gse seemed to work just fine :)

when we cleaned the carpets here before moving in, we used Laundry soap and then after scrubbing the carpets ran it twice with just plain water to make sure all the soap was gone from the carpet, all our birds play on the floor, eat food they've thrown out of the dishes onto the floor of the floor and they're fine.

as for the waxing i'm not sure. i haven't used mop and glo, I use mr. clean and i only have one room that isn't carpet which is the kitchen and I do it when all the birds are down the hall in the bird room and when i can have the doors and windows open.

if any bird is in the living room i just use dish soap and water
