Sam the parakeet and Freddy the cockatiel have always had a close relationship, as they grew up together as youngsters. Even though both have gotten friends of their own species in the years since, and Freddy has a cockatiel mate and currently a nest of chicks, they remain chummy. But what quite surprised me to see was that for the first time this week, Sam started feeding Freddy as if Freddy was a chick. Since cockatiels don't generally feed their mates, I thought it quite interesting to see Freddy so into being fed, by a budgie no less, as it doesn't seem to be a really natural behavior for an adult male cockatiel.

It's not natural for tiels but it is for budgies. And some tiels do regurgitate for their mates, it's just as common in tiels. Very cute!

My tiel and budgie do that. My male whitefaced cockatiel being fed by my male green budgie. Both over a year of age.
It's cute.
