Hi all

I’m new here.

I have a budgie and thinking to get a cockatiel now. I’m wondering if they share similar nutritional needs?

I’m feeding my budgie seed sprouts, microgreens, beans and pods, grains (quinoa, barley, oat) veggies (lettuce, romaine, pea sprouts), the occasional sweet potato and egg, Harrison’s pellet, lafeber nutri berries and Hagen budgie seed mix.

Also, is the Vision or liliphut largest cage (taller than wider) a good size for cockatiel? I’m not looking for a flight cage but more for space to include many toys and enrichment ( I have a dog, so the cage is important to me). There would be flight time and interaction outside the cage for about 2 to 3 hours daily.

My budgie is using the vision M02 size (taller than wider), I know the usual recommendation is wider than taller cage. But I observed my budgie, it loves to spend time at the bottom of the cage and climbs up and down. So I’m wondering if cockatiel would enjoy that?

Thank you in advance for your kind advice. You can direct me to the relevant stickies for me to read thru too.
Have a good day ;)

I'm not sure about the food. I give my cockatiel: sunflower seeds, millet, wheat.
I'm just going to say that I looked up if budgies and cockatiels get along. Apparently if they get to know each other they can. But there is always the risk. Budgies have a different diet and are much smaller. Its best to keep them separate.
The cage looks quite good, if it has enough space for a cockatiel to flap around in. BUT they might get into squabbles and that would not be good. A different cage might be required.

I hope that helps. By the way: nice Budgie!:)

Thanks for your comments! Yah they could be friends, but I don’t want to risk it, my budgie is kind of naughty and in your face annoying. 🤣

I’m planning to get a separate cage for the cockatiel. I’m just wondering if a similar cage as my budgie’s one would work for a cockatiel?

Please don't go by what I say if you don't think it right. If you look up how big a cockatiel cage should be maybe you will get a better answer. As you say you let them out of the cage for a few hours a day.
Maybe wait to see if anyone else will say something.

Here's a picture I found of cockatiels in a vision M02 cage.

Oh goodness there are three birds inside! My tiny budgie stays in that M02 cage alone! And i thought it fits just finely. I must let him know how privileged he is. Hahaha!

Oh no worries, thank you for your comments, I appreciate it! I sure can discern what’s best for my pets. Just wondering if the community here has used these “branded” (vision or liliphut) cages and what are their opinions.

I like their horizontal bars to let the bird climb up and down. The tall space allows for toys and ropes. Cleaning is not easy but the plastic guard keeps the food remnants from flying out.
