When do Cockatiels usually go through their second molt? I have a male pearl who still has some of his pearling. I was told when I got him that he was one of last years babies. He is feeling his oats and is quite the little Romeo and has been through one molt so I figure he's over 6 months. If someone could give me a ballpark idea of when the second molt occurs I would have a better idea of his age.
I have one that has been losing feathers for the last month or so. So far it's been 3 or 4 primary wing feathers, a few secondaries, one tail feather and a a couple of days ago there was a little pile of various body feathers. When I aquired her I was told she was laying eggs all over the place (she has not done that here). I also noticed she had a bald spot on the back of her head and neck. Looked as if it had been done by the male she had been paired with. Apparently not a match made in heaven. Those have come back in now and she has been dropping other feathers little by little ever since. I wonder if the plucking triggered a molt? does that sort of thing happen?
