I have a 9 day old chick. Only mom feeds. Ive assisted two times so far when she hasn't fed him through the night at all and his crop is empty. It seems like it takes 5 to 6 hrs for his crop to empty and as i understand it, it should be emptied every 2 to 3 hrs with feedings from parents around the clock. This has me worried. He doesn't appear dehydrated, skin in pink and soft, eyes are about to open but his grey plumage is coming through nicely. He's a great eater and a great pooper.

Should i worry about him not getting fed as often as Ive read online? Should i ban off a little and not stuff his crop so much. I think today i may have given him more than he needed with mom feeding after me at 7:30 pm. It's now 1:40am and I'd say his crop is about half empty... 😕

I desperately want to do right by this baby. Please help!

for 9 days old or older its normal that parents wont feed at night and by morning chick would have completely empty crop. Do co-feed but only once or twice a day and just give 1-3 cc,s no more..(purpose of co-feeding is taming, not nutrition)Leave it at peace at night.. and allow parents to care for the chick rather then you. Most of them by instinct will do it just righ
