My experience with my pot-smoking neighbour last weekend has spurred me on to find an air purifier for my living room.

I've heard that the ozone produced by ionizing air purifiers does more harm than good, so I'm searching for one that is NOT ionising, but does have a HEPA filter...easier said than done!

Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm in the UK, but I don't mind shipping from other places if it means I can get a decent machine at a decent price.

If you don't mind a slightly red-neck solution. You can use a box fan and a furnace filter with a Merv 13 rating. I also use a washable filter on the back. This video from the University of Michigan explains how it works. Much cheaper than most purifier units.

To get rid of foul odors, get a carbon filter. They're very effective for that purpose.

Thanks for the tips Darkel and Roxy. Maybe the 'redneck' method is worth a go! (yeeha?)
