The most expensive handfed baby in the northwest in a pet store is about $139.00. Always cheaper from a breeder. I got a gorgeous Cinnamon Whiteface hen (hand fed) from a breeder for $95. That's the most I ever paid for a bird. She was from showbird stock. I only paid $15. for my Whiteface Pearl male (totally wild) but coming around. I talk softly and he sees me with the other birds and he gets a little closer to check it out.

That's not too bad for handraised (but you can get 'em cheaper) if that's what you want then get it. With the one that's not tamed, you should only get it if you're willing to have the time to tame it, and teach it things. It's not that hard to tame a Cockatiel, it's just patience and time, that's all. :D

I got 2 of my female 'tiels from a breeder, I got one for $80 and the second one was $150 for her + the cage which was a really good price I reckon! my other female 'tiel come from a pet shop she was $205 with a cage also. Then both my 2 male 'tiels come from a pet shop also, and they were $60 each. Before I got my 2 male 'tiels I was looking in pet shops locally and pet shops in shopping centers and 10 out of the 12 I went to wanted $200-400 just for a Cockatiel either tamed or untamed.

So yeah, they're definitely cheaper when you get them from a breeder, which if I DID ever get another I'd get one from a breeder no doubt about it.

I got mine from a tiel owner who put in a nest box with his pair just to see what would happen...and ended up with 5 eggs.

He didn't have room or time to keep all of them so I got Sam for $40 only a few days after he was fully weaned. He was hand raised so was a snugglebird just a week later after settling in and getting used to me.

Just check your local classifieds or craigslist (where I found the ad for tiels and bought a cage for only a fraction of the overpriced pet store).

What do you mean by courier?

They can live up to 20 years.
The bar spacing would be too far apart in a parrot cage probably. And a tiel normally cant live with a budgie. theres a few exceptions, like with atvchicks' but usually it doesnt end well.

like someone else said, you should check craigslist. and freecycle. i just got 2 new tiels off freecycle with cages and supplies and everything for free. granted they arent tame.. but i have the time & patience :)

Maybe you should wait a little while and get everything you need for a cockatiel together first. You can't put a cockatiel in with budgies to live, sometimes it works, but most of the time the budgie will bully the cockatiel. You will need to put a cockatiel in a separate room, in a separate cage for 30 days as quarantine. You don't want a new bird to give your budgies any illnesses. If you get everything together first, cage, toys, food, book on cockatiel care etc. etc. then maybe your dad will see that you are being responsible and maybe then he will drive you to a nearby breeder.

I saw your cage in another thread and other members and I have made some great comments and you are very close to being ready for a tiel.

It is not a good idea to house the budgie with the tiel only in some special case does it work. However out of cage supervised time together can work.

I have a cockatiel and budgie together, they get on great! :D They were a bit wary of each other at first but then they started to play together, and follow each other around the cage. Many people said to me before I got Earl(cockatiel) and Little Bill(budgie) that they won't live together and they will fight. But I also know a friend who had a cockatiel and budgie together aswell, and they got on fine aswell! :D These may be certain cases where things go well, but they love being together in the cage and out! :p

Good Luck with the cage and when you get a cockatiel! :)
