I wanted to tell you about my cockatiel Jackie. As I said in my introduction he has been my little buddy for 15 years now, actually it will be exactly 15 this Sunday
. He was very tame from the first day I got him and would run out of the cage and jump on my hand, getting him back in his cage was the problem. Well back then there was not that much information on taking proper care of tiels and I did not always do the right thing. I did not even know that he needed toys or what kind. He was very sweet for the first year but once he reached maturity he got grumpy at times and still is like that. Fortunately he never bites hard and even when he is mood he just nips. He always liked a lot of attention and could be very loud when in his cage. When he was still very young I watched a parrot show and decided to teach Jackie some tricks too. I was surprised how quickly he learned and in a short time he know several tricks. He played basket ball, put rings on a peg, could put small items in a box and then close the lid, wave and some other stuff. Once I went to college I was taking a psychology class and we were learning about animal behavior and how they learn. I told my professor about Jackie and he had me bring him to one of the lectures. Jackie did very well in the lecture hall with all the people watching him and got a "college certificate". When I met my husband he had a young cockatiel named Rocky. Jackie wanted to be friends but Rocky had other ideas. It took five years before they became close friends. Then at age eight Rocky died very unexpectedly, I was devastated. For three years Jackie was on his own and I spent a lot of time with him. But when I was pregnant with my second son I felt that after the baby is born I will not have as much time so that is when we decided to get Tiko. Jackie was not too crazy about her since he was 12 and she just a baby but over time they have grown to like each other. So thats the story of my little Jack.
