So for a loooooong time now i've been wanting to replace my tiel cage with one of the same style but powder coated, because of a small amount of rust in a corner of their current cage (not accessible to busy beaks). I located one at my local pet shop a while back for $200. Today i went back to double check the price and it's $195 AND at the moment they have $10 off all bird cages so that makes it $185 which is a very good price for a powder coated cage here. I'm thinking of going back and buying one this afternoon.

I'm just a little worried that i won't be able to get the majority of the cost back on selling their old cage on eBay. I *think* i will be able to get $140-$150 for it, if i can manage that then i'll be alright. If i can't and i don't get a job sometime soon then i may run into problems paying for horse riding next term...grrr. The cage i have now retails for $230 around here (which is INSANE) so i don't think i will have too much trouble selling it even with the small amount of rust. I know a lot of people aren't anywhere near as picky as me when it comes to bird cages. Mum's said that she would give me a loan to pay for riding if i couldn't get the money back too.

I guess i just wanted to see what other people thought, do you think i'll have trouble selling a used cage? I think now is a good time to buy the new cage with the $10 off. I asked how long it would be until that deal ran out (because it's been on for a looong time) and was told that once their stock runs out and they order new stock in the deal will stop, and there's not really any way to know when that will happen.

My ultimate cage plan for the year is to buy this one for the tiels now, sell the tiel cage i have. Then later in the year buy a powder coated double stacked version of this one for the tiels and the green cheek conure i plan to buy around xmas time, and give the single to the budgies, and sell the budgie cage. :p Sounds complicated, but the end result will get rid of the plastic coated cages i have now and leave all my birds in good quality powder coated cages.

The reason shops usually have sales is when they are unable to sell stock, so how many is there left because they will usually keep lowering the price until they sell as many as they need but If you want the cage cheaper you could also see who the shops supplier is to see were they get from I've done before and saved a bit of money before.

I'm not sure how many there is left, they're AVIONE cages which is the main cage brand in Australia. They told me that the breeder/flight cages (what i'm looking at) are their best sellers, so i'm guessing they're just getting rid of their left over stock from xmas or something.

I've made a couple of ads, one online and one to put on the local noticeboard, to see if i can sell it without eBay first. If not i'll get dad to list it when he gets back from overseas.

Turns out it's not AVIONE like i thought, but rather Bonafido. I talked to the store owner for a long time about the problems i've been having with cages and she said that Bonafido is very good, they're sold lots of their cages and never once had a problem. She also said she knew what i was talking about as they once got a bad batch of cages (different brand) which rust fell out of when tapped upside down, needless to say they were sent back, hehe. The AVIONE cages i have are yuck, i've been keen to replace them for a very long time. The small cages they make are really good though.

Congratulations...I keep saying I should get a new cage for Willow. Don't know if I can afford it though! Also, I would think you will have no trouble selling a second hand cage. I see them all the time fetching reasonably high prices. :)
