Cockatiels don't need grit, because it can to more harm than good.

They do need a cuttle fish and millet can be given as a treat, about once a week! Or more in little bits if you want!! :D But it won't hurt! :p

no on grit, it causes more harm then good, it causes crop impaction, tiels like other parrots Hull their seeds, The only birds who need it are like chickens, pigeons, ones who eat the seed whole.

Yes on Cuttlebones - I use a 2 in 1 its a cuttle bone on the inside and mineral block on the outside

and yes Millet is good for them it has alot of vitamins and minerals, It's great for a new bird in a new environment normally that's all a new bird will eat for the first couple of days being some where new, it also helps with the stress of molting :)

mine get it a couple times a week

Alot of people and websites say it's fattening but it's a natural product. I've researched it many times and always find all the minerals and vitamins that are in it. and thats its a good healthy snack/ treat

how much and how often you give your bird millet is up to you.

If your new baby is not drinking water that could become critical soon. Some breeders are not careful to watch if a baby drinks water. She may not be weened yet. Meanwhile find out from the breeder what kind of food she ate and even what kind of dishes she used. If baby doesn't recognize where the food is coming from or if it's not what she is used to she may not eat. You may need to step in and feed her from a spoon. Hand feeding formula is available at most pet stores. Kay Tee exact is well recieved by my babies. Just mix with warm water and offer it on a small spoons. I bend mine to the shape of a little trowel. Kind of like the shape of the parents lower beak. I would also offer a little warm water on a spoon. Your baby will be even more bonded to you and it may save her life.

Freddie is 18 too and still acting like he is two years old, I thought he should be "slowing" down a little but Nooooo.

He likes his cuttle bone, millet, a little lettuce etc.......and toys are a no no, he will not entertain them, no matter what I buy, it is just either thrown on the floor and left or just ignored, he has two little bells in his cage and that is all he will have in there.

26....that is a good age for a little bird, you must be doing something right.:D

Do you give them lots of fruit, veggies and cooked foods? They could be getting the necessary vitamins and minerals that are provided in a cuttlebone/mineral block from another part of their diet.
