I have 2 questions.....one about Little Mikey and one about Angel.

Little Mikey does something weird when the ceiling fan is on....he stretches his neck right back looking up at the fan/light....opens his wings a little and repeatedly opens his beak wide....he makes no sounds...is the quietest he has ever been lol....has anyone's birds done that before?? It reminds me of baby birds being fed but he makes no sound....very weird...

The question about Angel is that when I got him (8 years ago) and up until last year he always had a pure yellow face and crest...no grey at all....I went overseas for 4 months from Dec07 - Apr 08 and when I came back his crest is mostly grey and he has alot on his face now....has anyone had that happen to a tiel? Do they get grey as they age??

Are you sure nobody pulled a switch on you? I've never heard of a birds' feathers changing after so many years of maturity! As fas as the fan goes. I think Little Mikey might be afraid of it. Most of their preditors come from above them so they are often theatened by something that seems to be coming from over their heads. The fact that it moves may make him think it's alive. It sounds an awful lot like a defensive posture.

I think thats what it is too I think your bird is afraid of the fan and thinks its a preditor coming to eat him I'd be careful you don't want to scare him to death. as for your other birds feathers changing colours it could be due to stress while you where gone or lack of nutritional food I know that large birds feathers will do that when they are under stress or malnurished I'm sure its no different for the smaller birds.

:blush: That was my first thought too. Usually pieds are either yellow faced or dirty faced, and that's it, no major changes in that department.

thanks for the advice everyone....It does make sense that little Mikey would be scared.....I didn't realise that was a defensive posture...u really do learn something new everyday here!!...I will be very careful of his exposure to it....he calmed right down after 10 mins and was happily playing with my keyboard and having scratchies so I guess he realised it wasn't a threat.....If I had have know I would have turned it off but hopefully it didn't scar him too much....

As for Angel he's definately the same bird!!! lol.....I lost a whole heap of photos of him younger and I'm really trying to wrack my brain to visual his face as a young bird.....but i swear that before I left he didn't have any grey....maybe it was stress....or maybe I have a terrible memory and am concerned over nothing lol.....Apart from the face he is no different.....in attitude and tameness.....I will keep an eye on him....His diet is no different to when he was young....if anything better.....I don't know....he's my troublesome bird....he hates everyone except me and my dad sometimes....he adores me...well when i say me...i mean my fingers and toes...sits and talks to them for hours....He squawks alot and i don't always know what he wants.....i get him out and he tries to fly off me back in....i give him fresh food...he ignores it.....he is a handful....he has lots of toys and things to do but he won't play....I worry about him when I leave for Canada....wondering if I should ahve got a female for him instead of little Mikey lol....He doesn't like Little Mikey...Hisses at him alot....and squawks if little Mikey moves round to much....Little Mikey just does what he wants lol
