I need help I have a 5 week old cockatiel. I have an older cockatiel that I hand feed for a month because he regressed. This baby is new I don't know how much food to give her she's 79.2 grams. I'm giving her 8 ml's but she's still screaming for more food. I don't want to over feed her. How much do I give her. The breeder where I got my older cockatiel gave her to me because sue has splayed leg. Very mild case but she didnt want the parents picking on her. She works two jobs and didn't want to sell her and end up in a bad home.

She's eating every 5 hours right now. Thank you for the help
You can reduce to 4 feeding a day and feed a little more each time. The total can be same or a little more. And the last feeding at night should be more than day time.

And make sure the formula you use have enough solid content but not too high. And if you use Kaytee exact handing feeding formula, you have to be very carful about not using too high solid content, which can cause slow crop and sour crop issues.

6 mL is too less, 8 mL is minimum, 79g X0.1 should be about 8 g or 8 ml. At 5 weeks I usual feed 12 mL at minimum up to 20 mL each time depends how many feeds a day and also depends when the formula is given , but my babies are much large usual 110 to 120 grams at 4 to 5 weeks. The night feeding always should be more. The day time feeding can be less, as their parents will do the same.

This web page may help a lot

She is old enough to be a fledgling, so you need to give her the opportunity to start learning to feed herself (in addition to the hand feeding). Millet spray is a good food for beginners, and soft foods like soaked or cooked grains, and vegetables to chew on.

She has millet and seeds in the bottom of box. Shes still in a combos because she has splayed leg and we just started treatments as soon as she's better she'll go into a cage

Seeds are too early for 5 weeks baby. Don't count on baby will eat enough seeds. At her stage, make sure growth on track is very important. Even at 8 weeks, I will make sure my babies have enough formula at night.

I give her formula and will keep giving it to her until she doesn't want it anymore. I was just wondering how much per feeding

It’s been years since I’ve hand fed so I can’t give you amounts but I got to know when their crop was full. If the baby is hungry, I’d feed him more. I nursed my human kids and I was the same way with them.lol. If they were hungry, I’d feed them! Birds won’t overeat. Just don’t force too much. Screaming for food means you aren’t feeding enough. Good luck!

Question about Kaytee: I am also using that for a 29 day old. Just one. Do you have a measurement that works with that formula? It would be greatly helpful to us newbies if someone can give us a better idea what works for consistency with is formula as the directions are not what most recommend here as the consistency of baby applesauce. I use 1 TBSP of formula to 2 TBSPs of water as if I use less it seems thick and will not run thru fork as suggested. He is 29 days should I go a little thicker now? He is a little behind in his growth as he had a crop issue. But that is now working well. Eats every 5 hours and crop empty’s overnight. His schedule goes like 9-10ml at 6:30 am, 9ml at 11:30 am, 9-10ml at 4:30 pm, 11:00 pm 9ml. he weighed 57.76 ml today. When should I go to 3 feeding a day and how much to feed? When do I put seeds in his brooder to let him forage?
