Hi guys,

We just "adopted" our beautiful birdie from a family member.

He is 23 years old, doesn't like hands at all, doesn't play with toys except 2 rings and has had a mirror in the cage for his whole life.

He's a grumpy boy but I love him and would eventually like to pet him.

I'm wondering if I should take the mirror out so he can build more trust with me? Or if it would cause him too must stress.

Thanks,
Lauren

If you take away the mirror he'll lose his lifelong companion, which would be pretty devastating to him. But you can use the mirror to work with him. Take it out temporarily sometimes and hold it in your hand, so he can look at it if he comes to you. Offer him treats at the same time, like millet spray or sunflower seed, so he can learn that fun things happen when he's with you.
