Ok so as some of you will know I have a 18 month female cockatiel Jax and a 6 month female Goosey.

Generally they seem to get on but over the last month or so Goosey seems to be picking on Jax. Pecking her etc. Jax fights back but nothing dramatic. Its all very handbags.

However a few days ago I noticed red browny splatters on the cage in various locations. I presume blood. But no marking on either bird and we have never witnessed stuff get that physical.

Basically wherever jax wants to be goosey must be there and peck jax away. Shes stolen jax favourite perch and jax just submits.

Weirdly though the other day Jax was bowing her head to goosey and goosey was preening jaxs mohawk. Jax kept going up to her to get her to do it.

They talk to each other a lot and sometimes sit quite content with each other.

What the heck is going on?

Actually what you describe is pretty normal in the cockatiel world! The sex of the bird really has nothing to do with it. I've seen both get upset with the other and what APPEARS to be fighting is really just bluffing each other! The next minute, one or the other decides it wants to be preened or have a head scratch! Now with this said, I WOULD keep an eye on those two since you mentioned what looked like blood but no spots on the birds. There are times when they can carry a disagreement a little too far.
