Hi,

We've taken in a 15 year old Cockatiel from an elderly lady who has been taken into a home. When the bird arrived we noticed that he really struggles to walk and spent most of its time on a cuttle fish. He seems to be eating ok but struggles to balance on a perch and keeps grabbing onto the cage with his beak.

I'm going to try and take him to a vet as its not normal behaviour and cant be nice for him.

Any thoughts or comments welcomed

Take a picture of his cage and of his feet. First thought is bumble foot and the cause is sometimes inappropriate perches.

Have you had birds before? It was very nice of you to take him in.

Sadly we agreed with the vet to put him down. He had no muscles in his legs and wings. He’d pretty much wasted away so it was the right thing to do. God know how long he was like it with his previous owner. Very very sad. Totally opposite to our own Kakariki
