Can I just first start out by saying I can not stand anything relating to weddings at the moment? I've been planning my own, with very minimal help from anyone, trying to budget this thing out...and I'm about to elope and forfeit anything I've currently paid.

I thought it was sooooo easy, too..what an idiot. I was going to do a beach wedding, oh but the venues are all booked up of course. Decided on a venue awhile ago that I could've already paid off and reserved by now..but because something else came up, we went a different route. Now, we were going to just do it at my maid of honor's house, where we were doing the reception...but she's soon to be out of a house thanks to her sis short selling it. So now, i'm back to no venue or reception site, with less than TWO MONTHS to go. I can get a permit to a beach park/park in my area on my date, thankfully...but now it's a matter of pricing...and then reception. And why is it, you mention wedding and everything jacks up $500 or more? Can I just say anniversary party? LOL.

Okay. I'm done.
My Nemo is sitting on me looking up at me, probably wondering why my heart rate has acclerated. At least i've purchased my dress, rings and got my license...that's something right?

Hi Everyone,

My tiel Fiona lost her cage mate a week ago. I have been monitoring her and have noticed these changes:

-Her droppings are different- either they are very small or they are very watery. She usually has very normal droppings. She also seems to poop more often, but they are small poops.

-She has started walking around the bottom of her cage a lot. She does not sit there like a sick bird, but kind of wanders around, sometimes picking at the poop down there. I tried to do some online research and I read that "pacing" on the bottom could be sign of emotional issues and a lonely bird. She isn't pacing though, just walking around.

Could this be her looking for her mate? Any idea how long it takes for a tiel to grieve the loss of her mate? I am planning to get a new tiel at some point but didn't want to rush it.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been gone for so long! I seem to be a seasonal member!

Anyways, last year Pip had his wings clipped (horribly mangled more like) when I rescued him from the pet store (Yes, I got him for free from the buggers!). So all summer I was able to take him out in our front lawn. Now he has all his flight feathers and needs a harness. He is such a good boy, he lets me put anything on him.

Currently, I have an old red Premier Petite harness, figure 8 style. It makes me feel nervous! The clasp is really big and it's just very bulky, I'm afraid he would get it tight around his neck and it would hook itself in the loop and stay tight until I could rescue him! My other worry is that it would be easy enough to slip off and over his head. Because I am afraid of strangulation, I don't make it too tight, but it's not loose either. It seems fairly secure but who knows what he would do to get out of it in a moment of fright.

I have been looking at the aviator harness and saw a video of a girl putting one on her cockatiel, it seems to have front and back straps as well as adjustable loops around the wings. That looks safer to me but I want to know how reliable it is and how your birds liked it.

I'd also love to hear about other brands of harnesses!

After the horrible mess of a clipping Pip went through, I will not clip his wings again, his feathers are all ready very poor condition and I don't want to strain them. He also had multiple feathers PULLED out of his hind end by my other male cockatiel who suddenly turned vicious. Don't worry, I staunched the blood and separated him from other birds for many days then put him with a kinder cage-mate.

Any suggestions?

Hi! My name is Leia! A couple of days ago I saw two people looking at me while I was in this place called Petco and boy, they were scary! I always get scared when they get really close to me...but today one of them came back and next thing I know I am in a strange place that makes a lot of animal sounds. When I was taken out of the dark cage with no bars I saw the other human too! I instantly heard others like me say, "Who's that?" and I replied with my soft muffled chirp, "Where are you guys? My name is Leia!" One by one the older budgies, like me, came out of their really big cage and greeted me. I like the green one the most, he's funny and has a funny name too; Kululu. The others were Louis "Gooey", Pippa, and Floyd (she has a boy's name and that's why she's the meanest). They all really like me already and I feel like a part of the flock! My human got me a special perch for my special feet and they re-arranged the toys and food dishes so I can have easier access to them. I have already eaten some yummy seeds and my new home is bright and there's a lot less noise. Thanks, humans! I'll be sure to poop on you lots and be as loud as possible in the mornings! :D

So I'm sure this is a familiar story for this forum but I woke up this morning to find an egg on the bottom of our cage. We think we know who the mother is as we have two females but we didn't think our male was old enough to breed yet. This leads me to two conclusions. Either the female is laying without a fertilized egg or the other bird we thought was a female is actually a male. I'm inclined to believe that the egg is simply unfertilized as the two females show nothing but signs of being female. The male is around 7 to 8 months old, we aren't 100 percent sure on the exact age but I was under the impression that was too young to breed. What's even more bizarre is that we have a nesting box set up with the cage and Gibbs, the female we think laid the egg, did not even use the nest box which she frequently goes in and out of. So I moved the egg to the nesting box and showed her it was there. She began surrounding the egg with bedding so I'm not too concerned about it. Now I understand that it can take up to 48 hours to lay another egg and that she most likely will not start sitting until the second, more likely the third, egg. I guess ultimately I should wait and candle the eggs to see if they are fertile? Any thoughts on the situation guys?

Hi im new here, ive had my cockatiel for around 4 weeks now and hes doing really well. I am wanting him to be really tame and enjoy coming out of his cage. When i first go to get him outpfhis cage, he oens his beak to bite me but after a bit he comes onto my hand with a bit of persuasion(e.g millet and pushing against his belly). How do i get him to come on my hand staright away without hesitation. Once he is out hes fine execpt ocassionally flying off and getting grumpy with me after a while.

Ive learnt him to step up on command, but he will only do this when he feels like it. Sometimes he will do it and sometimes he wont, it is usually takes a while after getting him out before he starts to relax and does what i want him to. I am gradually making the space he has to jump bigger, he has got to the stage where he will do a big jump to get on my finger but he wont go past that e.g flying. He is a good flyer but he wont fly on my f ger, just jump. How do i get him to fly?

Also is there any tips on getting him to talk, how to fully know if hes interested in a word and roughly how long can it take? If you have any tips for me, either getting my bird out better, getting him to fly to me or to talk that would be really appreciated, thanks jayden :)

I could really do with some help making a decision about my cockatiels. I have 2 pairs and I'm not sure whether to keep them as I just don't get much time these days.

My dilemma is that I dont want to rehome them and then they get stuck in a cage forever with no attention. I have them in an aviary and they are happy.

Here are my problems with pair one:
2 that have paired were very tame and now they are attempting to breed but have no idea what to do with the eggs. When they breed the male gets very possessive and guards the eggs and her fiercely, which means we cant pet him OR her anymore. I'm not even sure they actually mate, I think she is just producing eggs, because they are not regular (every two days etc)

Would it be best to separate these two, so they can be tame again? I tried this yesterday and the girl is o.k, but the boy is pacing in his cage and i feel bad for him.

My second pair breed but ever since I rehomed them she has laid weak eggs. She's been seen by a vet last year and she is o.k. I have tried her on calcium but I think she is possibly just too old to breed now.

All of them are rescue birds so I don't know their ages.

I did take all of the boxes out of the aviary, but the tame pair began laying eggs in the quail house and chased out the quail!! They wouldn't sit on the eggs, the male just guarded the door..lol

I don't know what to do. I do like them a lot but just think maybe they would be better elsewhere, but I'm not convinced, because I will worry where they go. One pair need a retirement home and the others will needs lots of individual attention.

Please can you help me make a decision? :)

My teils are a mated pair that I just got a week ago from a friend who raised birds her whole life. They are both white face and the moment I saw them I had to have them. Unfortunitly they are not friendly but thats ok. The female ast the moment is setting on 3 eggs. Hopefully we get some chicks in 23 days or so. We are hoping one is albino as both parents carry the gene.
Well thats a little about me and my birds. I hope to meet you all!
